Male Nurses…More Pay??
Oh my, what a lively discussion! An issue so important we have to play it again. Listen up: a recent census report shows the average male nurse earns almost $10,000 a year more than the average female nurse.
Bobbi McCarthy, one of our dear blog contributors made this comment on our Facebook page when this show ran the first time, “We were talking about this at work yesterday and found out that 2 of our male co-workers do in fact make more than the rest of us female workers….and the kicker– they have only been in nursing for 3 and 4 years to our 13-23…NOT COOL.”
Although 90% of registered nurses in America are women, they don’t think of male nurses as underdogs. But who better to discuss the topic than Shayne and Casey! Luckily we bring some sanity to the conversation with Boston RN and NNU Co-President, Karen Higgins.
And moving right along, check THIS out: God Helps Me Pee: A Patient Story…
An old man and his daughter go to the nurse practitioner for his monthly checkup. During the examination, the nurse practitioner asks how his nightly incontinence is.
“It’s fine,” says the old man. “I just get up and go to the bathroom, and God turns on the light for me.”
Listen to the show for the rest of the story!
Does your doctor really want to discuss your weight? Dr. Gail Altschuler weighs in (no pun intended)!
The answer may be “no,” but the sobering statistics indicate the strong need for a change in the way doctors talk to their patients about their weight. Approximately 35.7% of adults and 16.9% of children and adolescents in the United States are considered obese, according to the most recent figures. That means more than 90.5 million Americans are at increased risk of serious health conditions, such as type 2 diabetes, heart attack, and stroke. We’ll visit with Dr. Altschuler about what she thinks needs to be done to reverse this trend. Dr. Altschuler is the founder and medical director of the Altschuler Center for Weight Loss and Wellness here in Marin County, California.
And you can’t make this stuff up, and Joanie doesn’t either. This week on Fit Happens, more fitness flops. While fitness is no longer considered a fad, there have been many fitness product fads that have been sold to consumers wishing to get into shape quickly. It can be hard to tell the difference between fitness products that work and fitness products that flop. But Joanie breaks it down on Fit Happens!
From the EMAIL BAG:
Questions for Casey and Shayne this week include a listener who has lost not a friend, not a relative, but yes…a “skin tag.” We aren’t kidding, her skin tag disappeared but not without a fight! Listen this week to see what her concerns were and what she found out. Can skin tags be more serious than just the nasty look of it all?
