COMING UP on NurseTalk this week our friend MARILYN KENTZ. Some of you (we sure do) might remember Marilyn from her hit 90’s TV show The Mommies. She and her next door neighbor, Caryl, put together a little comedy stage show advertising it as “A show for women who don’t want sex more than once a month”–and women flocked to it. After a year of sold-out comedy clubs, the two friends found themselves moving from Marin County to Hollywood to star in their own NBC sitcom.

We will visit with Marilyn and find out what she is up to now.

GET ON YOUR FEET–GET UP AND MAKE IT HAPPEN!

NurseTalk has joined forces with the American Heart Association to talk about their Start! movement. Nia Lendaris will be with us to talk about the Start! campaign and efforts to promote health, nutrition and exercise to help fight against heart disease and stroke.

You won’t want to miss Nia’s information.

WE HAVE A SPICY, OUTSPOKEN RN JOINING US (NOT CASEY) THIS WEEK. Her name is Adrienne Zurub and she has written what is being described as a “provocative” book about the nursing profession. The book is called Notes From The Mothership. They say nursing has no voice, (we’re not sure who says that) well, Adrienne has one and she’ll share it with us Saturday!

The Toll Of War

A San Francisco VA doctor working in the liver clinic and treating patients with hepatitis C began to notice (when she first started working there) that most of the patients in the waiting room were from the Vietnam era, in their 60’s and older.

Over a matter of months the faces began to get younger—the waiting room was starting to fill with young men in their late teens and 20’s. They were emotionally and physically scarred by a new war in Iraq.

With no programs at the VA that offered the type of integrated care they needed the doctor came up with the idea of a specialized clinic—thus OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM/OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM INTEGRATED CARE CLINIC was born. Join us as we talk to a founding member of the clinic.

Shame on Sutter

Our guest this week is Jan Rodolfo representing our friends at the California Nurses Association. Jan, who is an Oncology Nurse, sits on the CNA Board. She is going to talk about the importance of the unprecedented 10-day strike against Sutter Health here in the Bay Area. She will also update us on the status of Kim Kutcher, the 46-year-old nurse who was denied back surgery by her insurer, Blue Cross.

JOIN CASEY AND MAGGIE AS THEY PAY TRIBUTE TO THEIR IRISH FRIENDS AND THOSE THAT SIMPLY LIKE TO CELEBRATE ST. PATRICK’S DAY. You won’t want to miss the top of the hour or any of the show for that matter.

AND as a surprise to Maggie, one of her childhood friends will be calling in from Ireland—this—you won’t want to miss.

Join us for all the fun and dialog this Saturday at 2PM-PDT on Green 960 AM. You can also listen live by

Coming in March and April

Adrian Zurub, is a nurse who also happens to be the author of Notes from the Mothership. Adrian is funny and has a great story to tell.

AND, remember the 90’s TV show, The Mommies? Well, we do and Marilyn Kentz, the feisty, outspoken brunette of the dynamic “mommies” duo will be with us to talk about the importance of laughter in our lives. Her experience as a three-time published author, life coach, parent educator and facilitator for several women’s support groups lends plenty of wisdom and substance to her penchant for humor.
